What it unlocks
Answers from ADA information specialists, free materials and accessibility guidance, federal complaint review and possible referral or investigation, and confidential, voluntary, no-cost mediation with an ADA-trained neutral when both parties and the department agree.
Who qualifies
Person seeking information about ADA rights or responsibilities; Person reporting disability discrimination by a covered government program or public accommodation; Party invited to DOJ ADA mediation
Requirements
A Justice Department complaint generally concerns disability discrimination by a state or local government program or a private business serving the public; employment, air travel, housing, education, transportation, and other issues may belong with another agency. DOJ selects which complaints to mediate or investigate, and mediation requires both parties to participate voluntarily.
How to activate
Call the confidential ADA Information Line at 800-514-0301 or 833-610-1264 TTY for guidance, or submit the online Civil Rights Division report or a mailed complaint with the facts and supporting material. Preserve any separate court or agency deadlines while DOJ reviews it.
Cost basis
No-cost access. The core benefit has no required payment, purchase, deposit, paid membership, or pre-existing paid-product relationship under the captured terms.
Cost and fees
Information, complaint filing, and DOJ-sponsored mediation are free, and a lawyer is not required for mediation. DOJ does not provide private legal advice, cannot act on every complaint, may take months to review it, and a complaint does not pause private statutes of limitation or guarantee investigation, mediation, settlement, or damages.
