Entitlement facts
Benefit type
Government benefit. A government-funded or administered benefit, service, coverage program, assistance program, or public access route. Taxonomy definition →
What it unlocks
A 100% reduction of an eligible provider's customary voice-service connection charge up to $100, with possible interest-free deferred payment of qualifying connection charges up to $200 under the federal rule.
Who qualifies
Lifeline-eligible household at a qualifying rural Tribal-land address using a participating Link Up voice provider
Requirements
The consumer must qualify for Lifeline through income or an approved program, live at a qualifying rural Tribal-land address, and select an eligible telecommunications carrier that receives the required high-cost support and offers Tribal Link Up. Lifeline is limited to one benefit per household, and repeat Link Up support generally requires a move to a different principal-residence address.
How to activate
Apply for Lifeline through the National Verifier or applicable state process, confirm Tribal-land qualification, use the participating-company search, and ask the selected voice provider whether it offers Link Up before starting service.
Cost basis
Discounted access. The user pays a reduced price rather than receiving the core benefit at no charge.
Cost and fees
The discount is not available from every Lifeline provider and is for qualifying initial voice connection charges, not devices or all service costs. Charges above the covered amount and ongoing monthly service after Lifeline remain the subscriber's responsibility.
