San Francisco Free and Reduced Muni Programs

SFMTA offers free Muni for all youth and additional free or discounted fare programs for qualifying seniors, people with disabilities, low-income adults, and people experiencing homelessness.

Requirements
Youth can board most Muni without applying; cable cars require the youth pass. Other programs require San Francisco residency, age, disability, income, homelessness-services, Clipper, or application criteria depending on the benefit.

Youth can board regular Muni directly; for cable cars or another fare program, follow the linked SFMTA application and Clipper instructions.
Cost basis
Variable by provider or eligibility. The user's out-of-pocket cost cannot be represented by one fixed amount because it depends on provider policy, income, household, geography, selected service, coverage group, subsidy amount, or the underlying program. It may be free, reduced, sliding-scale, or partly paid.

Eligible trips are free or discounted by program; Clipper replacement and noncovered service fees can apply.
