Requirements
Eligible groups include adult family or informal caregivers of people age 60 or older; caregivers of people of any age with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder; relatives other than parents age 55 or older caring for children under 18; and relatives, including parents, age 55 or older caring for adults age 18 through 59 with disabilities. Local assessment, priority, residency, capacity, and service rules apply.
How to activate
Use the Eldercare Locator to contact the Area Agency on Aging or local caregiver program, request a caregiver assessment, document the caregiving relationship and care recipient's age or condition, and ask which information, training, respite, or supplemental services are currently available.
Cost basis
Variable by provider or eligibility. The user's out-of-pocket cost cannot be represented by one fixed amount because it depends on provider policy, income, household, geography, selected service, coverage group, subsidy amount, or the underlying program. It may be free, reduced, sliding-scale, or partly paid.
Cost and fees
Information and access help are generally free, while respite and supplemental services are limited by local funding, capacity, assessment, and priority rules. Voluntary contributions or cost sharing may be requested for some services where permitted, and the program does not guarantee continuous paid caregiving.
