After a presidentially declared disaster that includes Individual Assistance, FEMA may help eligible survivors with temporary housing and limited repair or replacement of a disaster-damaged primary home.

What it unlocks: Depending on the declared disaster and verified need, assistance can include lodging-expense reimbursement, initial and continued rental assistance, direct temporary housing when authorized, and money toward essential home repair or replacement needed to make a primary residence safe, sanitary, and functional.

Requirements: The applicant must have disaster-caused housing damage or displacement in an area and incident designated for Individual Assistance, meet FEMA identity and occupancy rules, and for repair or replacement generally prove ownership of the primary residence. Insurance and other assistance are considered, duplication is prohibited, inspections or documents may be required, and the application must meet the disaster deadline unless late filing is accepted.
How to activate: Confirm that the address and incident are open for Individual Assistance, then apply through DisasterAssistance.gov, the FEMA app, 800-621-3362, or a Disaster Recovery Center. Report insurance, every disaster-caused housing need, current contact details, and preferred payment method; submit requested proof and appeal on time if FEMA misses or denies an eligible need.
Cost basis: No-cost access. The core benefit has no required payment, purchase, deposit, paid membership, or pre-existing paid-product relationship under the captured terms.
